The final result of the match went to the Hornets (5 - 4) in the last game where Sonia, with the score standing at 11 - 10 to the Bees, pulled three points with consummate skill from nowhere in the last shot of the match.

NDPL ABC Wasps v Crondal Tigers, Tue 17 May
Alex Myles reports:
The Wasps played Crondall Tigers at Kirdford on Tuesday 17 May. Although the score line was 2-7, the match was closely contested.
The two Jeans, Green and Vanstone, beat Crondall's third pair 13-5, and Jill and I beat the same pair 13-8. We both lost timed out games to their second pair, the two Jeans at 9-11 and Jill and I at 7-10. We both lost the games with their first pair.
The three Musketeers, Chris, John and Glynn, had a dramatic evening. In the first game, Chris and John reached 12 all. Chris had our last boule in hand and Crondall similarly had one. They were holding 1 on the ground with their boule about 2 inches from the coche, on a long end, and Chris to play. He did exactly what was required, with a perfect carreau to leave his boule the same 2 inches from the coche. We were convinced we had now won, but as luck and skill would have it, Crondall produced the identical shot to win 13-12 !!! John and Glynn lost the second game 7-13 and Glynn and Chris lost the last game 12-13, Their results could easily have been the other way.
The Tigers were a sporting bunch and we are looking forward to the return match and hope that we can then reverse the score.

Non-Club Events - Sun 22 May
The Foresesters, Kirdford v The Cricketers, Wisborough Green
Mavis Rauch reports:
THE RUSTY BOULE TROPHY 2011
At Karl's request the Club organised this inter-pub competition for the first time in 2009.
Players from The Foresters and The Cricketers in Wisborough Green competed and The Rusty Boule Trophy, which was designed and made by Karl, was won by The Cricketers.
On Sunday, Peter, Mavis, Sonia and Bob organised the 2011 re-match. Each pub had 19 players and this year The Foresters got their revenge. They won the trophy by 15 games to 6 and Emma won First lady. The First man was Phil who had never played before but had obviously benefited from his pre-match private tuition from Sonia.
After the match we all enjoyed the barbeque. Judging by the laughter and the noise levels, the afternoon was a great success and there were many requests for another meeting.
Worthing Open Triples
Mike Kateley reports:
Marie Helene, Christine and I entered the Worthing Open Triples yesterday 22nd May. We all played well and ended up in the final of the Cup (the top competition) against the young ones from Bordon loosing in the final 13 points to 8, we each received a trophy and two bottles of wine. It was a most enjoyable day - more of you should try these competitions

ABC Hornets v. Oxshott Bedouins at Kirdford
David Lipman reports:
I have to say that we had a very satisfactory win on Sunday afternoon, 15 May with a 6-3 score against an all male team!!!
All our pointers pointed well on our uneven terrain and though the opposition eventually got the "hang" it allowed us to win all three of the first round. Something we must all remember(we must win early on our terrain before the opposition relise how to play it.)
The second round gave us two more wins and the third one more.
All together a very pleasing afternoon with a really nice cream tea to follow.
We look forward to the return on their terrain

NDPL ABC Wasps v Crondall Panthers
Alex Myles reports:
We won !!!
Derek and Jean Bonham, Peter and Muriel Molsher, Bobby Newbury and I defeated Crondall Panthers, on their inclined terrain, 5-4 on Monday afternoon, 9 May.
Peter and Muriel played resolutely, reversing their opening 9-13 defeat in the first game, to win by the same score in their second game. They then won their third game, timed out leading 10-8.
Jean and Derek won their first game 13-8, but suffered a fanny from Crondall's No1 pair in their second game. They bounced back from this to win their third game 13-11.
At this point the match was won, with only a one win contribution from Bobby and me.
We started well, elated to win our first game 13-6 from 6-0 down, but deteriorated from there as the slope wore us down!
Playing their No 1 pair in the last game I shot, and missed, with our last boule with 1-13 on the ground. Sorry Bobby.

NDPL ABC Hornets v. Crondal - Fri 6 May 2011
David Lipman reports:
In our game against Crondal we had the closest game I have ever played in.
Ist Round our team won 2 games
2nd round our team lost 2 games
3rd round we won and lost 1 game
Result 4 games each we then had to watch a breathtaking final game with Sonia and Ian at 11 and the opposition with 12 points - when time was called.
Last end tense pointing and poor shooting led to a score of 12 all
So another end had to be played-------------- a great shout went up from our team ---- when Sonia and Ian got the final point.
Result Our First win in our First game Well done team on "foreign soil".

SOCIABOULES – ABC Host the Meeting
Ian Fox reports:
Sunday 8th May saw Amities Boules Club Hosting their Sociaboules meeting. Forty Club members attended from Adur, Handcross, Cuckmere, Worthing and Amities. Just two less than our terrain capacity!
The playing format consisted of five individual Melees spread over the day with suitable stops for coffee, drinks and Sunday lunch.
Winners, in reverse order were Jane Cuckmere, Barbara Cuckmere, Jean Amities, Marie Helene Amities, Sheila Cuckmere and Alec Amities.
Mike Kateley, Chairman and Ian Fox Club Captain presented the prizes and congratulated the winners. There were some fine examples of competitive play throughout the day with just a single point deciding the outcome and individual players efforts rising to the occasion at crucial moments.
A small well supported raffle was held contributing to our expenses. My thanks to all who assisted with the organisation and well done to all who took part.

Pennock Cup and Plate
Ian Fox reports:
A fine day with thirty two players (sixteen doubles) attending.
Both finals were played after lunch on Saturday, 30th April
Pennock Cup
The finalists were Ingrid Richards & David Lipman versus Muriel Molsher & Sonia Lee.
Pennock Plate
The finalists were Bob Webster & Peter Rauch versus John Sylvester & Margaretha Goodman
After two closely fought games the winners of the Cup were Muriel & Sonia taking their game by 13 points to 9.
The Plate winners were Bob & Peter by 13 points to 11.
Of particular note was the steady play by Muriel & Sonia, consistently good pointing by Ingrid and John throughout the day. It was pleasing to see Margaretha back on form after her illness, Peter whose game has markedly improved and finally but by no means least Bob’s play especially as he does not play in all our competitions.
I hope these are good omens for our match play this season.
Mike Kateley our chairman congratulated the finalists and winners awarded the trophies and suitable liquid prizes with which to celebrate.
Although not part of the Pennock Cup & Plate competition Christine Kateley produced a most excellent cake properly decorated in recognition of the Royal Wedding duly consumated by all with expressions of good fortune to the newly Weds.
Thanks and well done everyone who played.
