David Lipman reports:
Two very interesting games this week both at Oxshott.
We once again met our old enemies the Oxshott Otters at their venue and played the usual game of marbles on their dry and dusty terrain. Regretably we lost 7-2. However, on the bright side, we had gained valuable experience on playing this sort of game for our match on Thursday against the Claygate Bedouins.
Zut Alors, On Thursday it rained, turning the dust bowl into a mud bath! But your Hornets rose to the occasion and managed to win the match 6-3 against a very tough but very pleasant group of 8 players.

NDPL ABC Wasps v Oxshott Hotshots Mon 15 August, 7.30pm
Alex Myles reports:
At the start on our home ground, Peter and Muriel put down a marker by winning 13-8. Both the Bonhams. and Jean Vanstone and I, failed to respond. We lost 13-7, despite having been 7-0 up after 3 ends, and Derek and Jean had " the worst game we have ever played " to lose 13-1. In the next round, Derek and Jean recovered to win 13-6 and Jean and I won 13-9. Peter and Chris lost 13-4 so that we were now at 3 games all. I thought that we might be in with a chance and was pleasantly surprised when we won all the next 3, Derek and Jean and Jean and I both winning 13-3 and Chris and Muriel winning 13-7, to win the match by 6 games to 3.
A splendid team effort, I reckon. Thanks to you all.

NDPL ABC Wasps v Cranleigh Thu 4 August, 7.30pm
Alex Myles reports:
A Near Miss. I thought, at one point, that we were going to beat them on their home ground !!
At the end of the second group of games we were leading 4 -2.
Jean Vanstone and I had won 2 ( one of which was 13-0 ).
John Sylvester and Bobby, and the Molshers, had also each won 1.
I was sure that we could pick up one more to win, but it was not to be.
Cranleigh won all the last three games.
As I expected, Jean and I were well beaten by Jeff and his partner, who then had 3 wins.
John and Bobby also lost.
Peter and Muriel were initially well ahead but ran out steam, under the floodlights, to lose 13-11.
The final result was therefore Cranleigh 5 Wasps 4. Quel dommage !!

Osborne Trophy 2011
The Winner - Mavis Rauch
with the Runners-Up
Carolyn Tuthill reports:
Saturday 13th August 2011 - a reasonably bright day for the Osborne Trophy.
This trophy is played for annually in memory of Rodney Osborne, past
Chairman of the Club. We had a very good turnout of members playing
doubles on all seven pistes, the result at the end of the three game
individual melee was a resounding win for Mavis Rauch with a magnificant
score of 3 wins - +30, runner up with another very good score of 3 wins -
+25 was Marie Helene Lopez. Only two others had 3 wins - third was
Christine Kateley and fourth, Tony Fox. All received a bottle of wine. We
were very pleased to have Sharmoine Osborne with us to present Mavis with
the trophy which will be duly engraved and given to her to keep for the
coming year. This completes our club internal competitions for this year.
Congratulations to all the worthy winners of the silverware - take good care
of it!! Carolyn
