Carolyn’s Fanny takes the Title

Paul Roberts reports:

The first Trophy of the year was won by our Secretary last Saturday. In a keenly contested melee, the Committee Trophy was won by a narrow margin by Carolyn Tuthill with 3 wins and +23 points from Mr Consistent Mike Kateley with 3 wins and +17.

The last game proved decisive when Carolyn and her partner fannied their opposition (+13). Mike won his last game but could only manage 13-7 (+6). When asked the reason for her success Carolyn paid tribute to her partner in the last game saying “I owe it all to him!”.

CRANLEIGH – SEMUR-EN-AUXIOS TWINNING

Carolyn Tuthill reports:

Many of you will be aware that Cranleigh has now twinned with Semur-en-Auxios in the Burgundy region of France.

Last Saturday, in the pouring rain, Ingrid and I joined with Christine, Mike, David & Hazel at the Band Room in Cranleigh, to promote our Club with a view to hosting a boule event in the future with the folks from Semur. Tony Fox, John Sylvester and Valerie put in an appearance also. Christine had the foresight to take along two albums of archive photographs which she has produced. We must get her to bring them to one of our Club events soon as they are a real history of the Club and most interesting. (It looks as if we are heading for our 20th Anniversary next year).

We had a most interesting morning meeting with the Cranleigh side of the twinning group who welcomed us warmly and showed real interest in forming a bond with our Club.

I know that Ian Fox is keen to visit Semur, supposedly to play Boule with the locals but it is rather a famous wine producing region!

Cranleigh Petanque Club were also represented by Jeff Fox and Janet together with some of their members (a few of whom are also members of our Club!), so we will have some (friendly) rivalry!

Four of us were there from the Committee, a decision was made that it would be useful to join the twinning group as a Club. The normal fee is £10 per family, we felt this was stretching it a bit, so we have paid a subscription of £50 as a group membership fee. This will keep us up to date with what is going on with the twinning and hopefully enable us to capitalise on our membership at the first opportunity.

We will, obviously, keep you up to date with developments.

Carolyn
